| Over
100 million gallons of wastewater are generated by Delaware County
residents and businesses everyday.
This wastewater
must be collected, conveyed, and treated in a safe, effective
way that prevents the contamination of our community's streams,
rivers, and water supply. DELCORA - The Delaware County Regional
Water Quality Control Authority - has been providing a regional
solution to this vital need for almost three decades. As a result
of our responsible, cost-effective management, the people of
our area enjoy a clean, healthy environment.

DELCORA
has invested more than $120 million in construction since beginning
operation in the early 1970's.
Because of this
carefully planned investment, we now have an extensive infrastructure
throughout Delaware County. This well-maintained system enables
us to meet or exceed all the water discharge quality mandates
set by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
and the United States Environment Protection Agency.
Our commitment
to quality wastewater management begins with our 9-member Board
of Directors appointed by the Delaware County Council. The
Municipal Authority itself is operated by an Executive Director
and professional staff firmly committed to efficient, business-like
performance. Our workforce of approximately 110 people is drawn
from the local area. These dedicated individuals are committed
to the health, well-being, and prosperity of Delaware County.
In addition to our quality wastewater management, DELCORA demonstrates
good corporate citizenship by enthusiastically supporting the
United Way, Widener's "Project Prepare", and the University
Mentoring Program." We also offer co-ops for area college
students.
|
| Everyone
associated with DELCORA recognizes the importance of good stewardship
of both the environment and the economic resources of our community.
For this reason,
we are proactive in utilizing the latest, most effective methods
for treating wastewater and solids. We also place a major emphasis
on keeping our county-wide infrastructure up-to-date and in
peak operating condition. This commitment to excellence requires
an annual budget of over $29 million. Nevertheless, we expect
our rates to remain stable for the foreseeable future. That's
because cost containment - without sacrifice service or water
quality - is at the very foundation of DELCORA's mission.

Thanks
to DELCORA, the Delaware River and its tributaries throughout
the county are cleaner and healthier. Our families can now enjoy
fishing, swimming, and other recreational activities on waterways
that once were polluted and unsafe.
Best of all,
the future is bright with promise. We have the capacity and
commitment to effectively accommodate the wastewater demands
of our area's expanding population of residents and businesses.
As a result, the people of Delaware County can look confidently
ahead to increased growth and prosperity.

DELCORA,
the Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority,
is responsible for the safe collection, conveyance, and treatment
of millions of gallons of wastewater every day.
A
major part of this program is the operation of our 25-acre
Western Regional Treatment Plant in Chester.
This state-of-the-art facility uses the latest technology to remove
harmful pollutants from the wastewater so that it can be safely
discharged into the Delaware River. The treatment process is carefully
monitored from start to finish to ensure removal of solid material,
organic matter, microorganisms, and industrial wastes that are
harmful to people and the environment.
Thanks
to DELCORA's engineering expertise and careful management, Delaware
County now enjoys a level of water quality superior to anything
that seemed possible before we began operation in the 1970's.

Protecting
and improving the quality of life of our community is the basic
reason for DELCORA's existence.
Because of the
careful planning and hard work of the men and women associated
with DELCORA, the Delaware River and its tributaries are purer
and safer. Our citizens now enjoy a wide variety of recreational
activities on waterways that were once unsuitable for such use.
In addition for both new and expanding businesses.
|
| We're
proud of this accomplishment. And we look for forward to helping
our county continue to grow and prosper in the decades to come. |
